Edmonton’s mature neighbourhoods are shaped by their established trees. These large canopies provide environmental, social, and economic benefits that take decades to develop and can’t be easily replaced once removed. As the City of Edmonton works toward increasing canopy cover over the long term, preserving existing mature trees remains the most effective way to protect neighbourhood character, urban ecology, and long-term tree health today.
