When is the Best Time to Prune a Tree?

It is generally recommended that trees in Edmonton, Alberta should be pruned in the fall, winter or spring, when the tree is dormant, and before the new growth starts. This is because the tree's wounds will have time to heal before the major growth period starts in summer, reducing the risk of infections or other damage to the tree. Pruning during the growing season (summer and fall) may result in new growth that is more susceptible to disease and damage, so it is generally avoided.

There are many exceptions to this rule. Do not hesitate to ask us for advice.
