Why removal matters

Removal is a last resort. When it's the right call, doing it well matters more than ever.

We look hard for a way to save a tree before recommending removal — structural pruning, cabling, soil decompaction, disease treatment, a multi-year recovery plan. There are trees we've kept standing through interventions. There are also trees that genuinely need to come down.

  • Advanced decay, heart rot, or large basal cavities
  • Hazardous lean that's progressed since planting
  • Storm damage to the central leader or major scaffolds
  • Dutch Elm Disease or other terminal conditions
  • Conflict with sewage, utilities, or infrastructure
  • Dead trees — left standing, they decay and become hazards over time

How we work

The same care as a complex pruning job — applied in reverse.

We're experts in complex removals. Most Edmonton lots are tight: fences, gardens, garages, decks, neighbouring property, and overhead lines to work around. We rig wood down piece by piece to protect what's below, chip brush on the truck as we go, and thoroughly clean up the site before we leave. Every removal is fully insured ($5M liability), WCB covered, with a detailed quote in writing before we start.

Removals we handle

Every removal is different. Here’s what we typically do.

  • Hazard Removal

Trees with advanced decay, hazardous lean, or significant deadwood over driveways, decks, or anywhere people gather underneath.

  • Storm Damage

Wind, snow, or ice damage that's destroyed the central leader or major scaffolds — assessed for what's salvageable.

  • Disease & Decline

Dutch Elm Disease, black knot, terminal decline. Removal under provincial rules where required.

  • Conflict Removal

Trees in the wrong location — interfering with utilities, foundations, neighbouring property, or planned infrastructure.

  • Large & Complex

70+ foot trees, tight access between garages and property lines, trees overhanging multiple structures. Climbing or crane work.

  • Construction Removal

Pre-development removals where retention isn't viable. We can also write Tree Protection Plans for what stays.

  • Same-Visit Stump Grinding

Grinding 6–12 inches below grade in the same visit as removal — more efficient than scheduling a separate trip.

  • Complex & Tight-Access

We climb removals in spots bucket trucks can't reach — between garages, over fences, through tight backyard access.

  • Crane-Assisted

When access permits, a crane lifts large sections out in one piece — faster, cleaner, and lower-impact on what's below than sectional rigging.

Frequently asked

Tree Removal FAQs

Do I need a permit to remove a tree on my property in Edmonton?

Trees on private residential property do not currently require a removal permit in Edmonton. Trees on City boulevards or parks always do, and those removals are handled by City crews. The City is reviewing a Private Tree Bylaw that may change the rules for large mature trees on private land — we stay current and will let you know if a permit applies to your tree.

How much does it cost to remove a tree in Edmonton?

Pricing varies widely by tree size, access, complexity, and whether brush and wood are hauled away. We give detailed written quotes before any work begins — and if we think the tree can be saved instead, we'll tell you.

Is the stump included?

Stump grinding is quoted separately from removal. The cost depends on stump diameter and access. Many of our clients have us grind the stump at the same visit, which is more efficient than scheduling a separate trip.

Are you insured for tree removal?

Yes — $5M liability insurance and active WCB coverage. We can provide certificates of insurance on request. This is non-negotiable for tree removal: an uninsured contractor who damages your house, your neighbour's house, or themselves leaves you on the hook for the bill.

How long does tree removal usually take?

Most residential removals take between two and four hours, depending on the size of the tree and site conditions. Tighter access, larger trees, or crane work can extend that — we give you a realistic time estimate as part of the written quote.

What happens to the wood and debris after removal?

All debris is chipped or hauled away unless you'd like to keep some as firewood or mulch — we'll tailor cleanup to your preference. Brush goes through the chipper on the truck as we cut. Larger wood is cut to firewood length and either left in your driveway or hauled.

Can you remove trees close to power lines or buildings?

Yes. Our arborists are trained and equipped to safely remove trees in confined or high-risk areas using industry-approved techniques — sectional rigging, lift work, or crane removals where the situation warrants. Live power lines tangled with a tree are an EPCOR call; we don't touch energized lines.
