Thank You, Edmonton — Reflecting on a Year of Growth, Care, and Community

City Tree Service reflects on 2025: team growth, preservation outcomes, community engagement, and what's next for Edmonton's urban canopy.

2025 has been a year of meaningful growth for City Tree Service. We've had the privilege of helping homeowners, neighbourhoods, and local businesses care for the trees that shape our city. As we head into the holidays, we want to take a moment to say thank you and reflect on what we accomplished together this year.

This year marked a continued shift toward deeper expertise, stronger preservation outcomes, and greater community involvement. Highlights include:

  • Helped hundreds of homeowners across Edmonton with assessments, pruning, planting, and specialized tree care
  • Shifted a greater portion of our work away from removals and toward pruning, preservation, and long-term tree health
  • Increased the number of tree risk assessments, tree condition reports, and tree valuations — allowing more trees to be preserved through informed, proactive decision-making
  • Supported multiple mature neighbourhoods with pruning, planting, and detailed risk assessments
  • Launched our refreshed City Tree Service website last winter, creating a stronger foundation for education, preservation, and local service
  • Expanded our education efforts through blog content and community outreach
  • Introduced new consulting and preservation-planning services for homeowners, developers, and municipalities
  • Continued to prioritize safety, transparency, and long-term tree health in every project
  • Had a good chat with CBC Radio Edmonton about the higher-than-usual amount of elm seeds across our city

Team & Community Highlights

  • Andy successfully completed the Board Certified Master Arborist (BCMA) examination, demonstrating advanced arboricultural expertise and a strong commitment to continuing education
  • Welcomed a new team member — many of you may have met Benjamin, our new Operations Manager. Over the summer, Benjamin completed his MSc in Forest Sciences, obtained his ISA certification, and became a qualified Tree Risk Assessor
  • Took part in multiple community events, including Seedy Sunday and Highlandia. We value these opportunities for connecting with others who share a passion for trees and for answering questions from the community

The Work We're Most Proud Of

This year, several areas of our work stood out as especially meaningful:

  • Planted more trees than ever before — strengthening Edmonton's urban canopy and laying the groundwork for even more planting in the year ahead
  • Began working more closely with community organizations to help preserve trees that might otherwise be lost to infill development.
  • Saved mature trees that homeowners initially believed would need to be removed, through careful assessment, pruning, and preservation planning
  • Supported storm-damaged neighbourhoods after periods of high winds and heavy snow, helping residents respond safely and quickly
  • Helped families plan thoughtful new plantings to improve long-term tree health, shade, and neighbourhood resilience
  • Provided professional tree health and risk assessments that identified hazards early — preventing damage and unnecessary removals
  • Continued refining our preservation-first approach across every service we offer

Thank You to Our Clients and Community

We're genuinely grateful to every client who trusted us with their trees this year. Your commitment to proper tree care, safety, and sustainability allows us to continue doing meaningful work throughout Edmonton's neighbourhoods.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As we look to the year ahead, our focus remains on:

  • Providing more education and resources for Edmonton homeowners
  • Continuing to prioritize tree preservation and ecological responsibility
  • Expanding neighbourhood-focused services
  • Offering streamlined winter and seasonal services
  • Helping protect and strengthen Edmonton's urban canopy
